A research or developer-led project has a number of stages: research and fieldwork, publication of initial work in a data structure report (DSR) or DES entry, post-excavation and other analyses, final report, and finally allocation of finds to a museum. However, it is very difficult to find what the current status is, and some projects never seem to work their way through the full process. This session will look at the issue from different perspectives, with a discussion of ways forward.
Susan Kruse is the Learning and Engagement Manager at ARCH, which she co-founded in 2009. She has led many projects investigating Highland archaeology and heritage, from earliest times to 20th century remains, and is a passionate supporter of community involvement. For the last two years she has been coordinating the Highland Regional ScARF project.
Kirsty Cameron is the Archaeologist for Highland Council who provides advice to the planning authority and to developers on proposals that may impact on the historic environment. Part of this role is to monitor compliance with planning conditions and archaeological work undertaken to fulfil the terms of planning consent.
Lynne McKeggie is co-Director of Highland Archaeology Services Ltd, a commercial archaeology unit based in the Highlands. Lynne has a special interest in artefacts and archiving and has worked with various local museums, as well as managing archaeological projects across the Highlands and beyond.
Emily Freeman, Treasure Trove Manager, is responsible for the daily running of the Treasure Trove Unit. Her responsibilities include engaging with the public and heritage sector on Treasure Trove matters, processing reported artefacts, and facilitating the Scottish Archaeological Finds Allocation Panel. Her area of interest is numismatics
