As part of the Highland Archive Service, the Lochaber Archive Centre in Fort William is responsible for locating, preserving, and making accessible documents relating to all aspects of Highland history. The Lochaber Archive Centre collects and preserves archives relating to Lochaber, dating from the 17th century to the present day. Alexander Ross House, along with the adjacent Charles Kennedy building, were once the premises of the Fort William Public or Higher Grade School.
This year for Doors Open Day we will be opening for the first time on a Saturday. Visitors will be able to see into the purpose-built strongroom, learn about the conditions in which archives are kept and see a display of material from across the centuries.
