The Old Coffin Road: Clynekirkton to Gordonbush [SU]
8 October 2017
Starts: 10:30
Ends: 16:00

The old coffin road was the main thoroughfare from Strath Brora to the coast, but is now a largely unused narrow track. We will see Killen Broch, a cup-marked stone, the old cleared township of Sallachy and a Bronze/Iron Age landscape of hut circles, clearance cairns and a cist burial (MHG10817, MHG10806, MHG10805, MHG30343, MHG30347, MHG10807, MHG30344, MHG30346).  And the scenery overlooking Loch Brora and Carrol Rock is stunning too!

The walk is mainly on a track, which has severely degraded in places with some boggy patches, and over some rough ground, but is suitable for all ages if you have a good level of fitness.

Meet at Brora Heritage Centre (Coal Pit Road, Brora; NC 898 043). We will organise cars at the centre, as the walk is a one-way, linear route.  We will leave some cars at the end of the route before we start, and we will return in these when we have completed the walk, to collect the remainder of the cars where we will have left them at the start. Distance of walk: 3.5 miles

Free/donations welcome. Children welcome with adults, dogs welcome if on lead. Bring a packed lunch. Walk level 2.
