Reflectance Transformation Imaging Workshop [IN]
13 October 2017
Starts: 15:30
Ends: 17:00

Part of Workshop Afternoon at Highland Council HQ

This specialist technique involves taking numerous photographs of an object from a fixed camera position, with a moveable light source. Dedicated software then creates a synthetic interactive image which can be enhanced and manipulated. Anyone can then examine the object on a computer screen, virtually moving the light source around the object. This technique has been successfully used to reveal text on ancient papyrus documents, and the Antikithera Mechanism. Michael Sharpe will demonstrate the process of taking the photographs and the subsequent software workflow.
