D3 - Building the Mallaig Railway [LO]

3rd-5th Oct, 12-5pm

Celebrating 120 years since the opening of the Mallaig Extension, the museum emerges from the pandemic by opening a new exhibition and educational space in a re-themed dining car. Tea, treats and a blether, with a closer look at photos from the railway construction period with the museum’s curator. Entry £1.

A collaborative exhibition on Nairn shops and businesses through the years with images and stories of local shops and businesses. Adults £4, children over 5 £1; family £8.

D5 - Coastal Cromarty plus New Recordings [RC]

25th, 26th, 28th, 29th, 30th Sept, 12-4pm

The Coastal Cromarty exhibition features the ‘Sea Inside’ community artwork sail. There are also new recordings this year, including two late 18th century trials, a series of short monologues from the eccentric 17th century laird Sir Thomas Urquhart and the Victorian tale of the unlucky evicted blacksmith. It may also be possible to see the exhibition outwith these hours by contacting the museum.

D6 - The New Gairloch Museum displays [RC]

Mon-Sat 10am-5pm

New displays opened in 2019 tell the region’s history. They include the Poolewe hoard of nine bronze objects recovered from a bog in Poolewe in 1877. Adults £5, children 5-16 £2, family £12.

D7 - Book of Kells. Some Mysteries Revealed [RC]

1:30-4:15pm

An exhibition exploring how the 8th century illuminated Book of Gospels inspired Celtic-Art instructor and educator George Bain in the mid 1900s and continues to inspire Cromary-based artist Thomas Keyes today. For those who can’t visit in person, the exhibition is also on the Groam House Museum website.

D9 - Around the World with 80 Dolls [RC]

A display of dolls from countries around the world including a collection from retired female rally driver, Pat Smith, whose rallying stories and experiences will also be shared through the exhibition alongside vintage toy vehicles. Please contact for current entry charges.
